I had a GREAT experience for my surgery at St. Mary’s. Due to my intense debilitating pain, Dr. Higa allowed me to be admitted early. Aftercare staff was so nice and compassionate. Gisella, Cerified Nurse Megan, and Julie on the 4th floor, all made me feel as comfortable as possible. It was a clean and quiet environment with a little cafe downstairs stocked with pastries snacks and Starbucks! Perfect for when my sister visited plus there’s a church inside to pray to God! Absolutely recommend!

Because I'm still experiencing these issues I want to express them. 10 years ago I went to St Mary's hospital for gallbladder surgery laparoscopically I was kept in that hospital for 7 days because they drug tested me without my consent I was wide awake when I went into the emergency room and they found out that I used methamphetamines. they never once approached me about it or ask me anything about it. In that 7 days they subjected me to 4 unnecessary exams. They also left me in pain the whole time I was there never did they give me any pain medication I didn't understand why, I was screaming in pain, I refuse one of their tests, they pushed me in a dark room with patience half covered in these machines nurses at the other end of the facility telling me, we'll be right there, I was never even told what this was they were going to do to me not when I was being taken there and not while I was there. I know how hospitals work, those nurses never came to me. I don't want this test I'm refusing this test take me back to my room I'm in pain. So they did I screamed in pain all the way back up to my room and so badly they had to get the other patient in my room out of there at 2:30 in the morning when surgery day came it was scheduled for 11:30 in the morning, the doctor never showed up until 9,:00P.M. that night. I was told by the nursing staff in pre-op as they were all leaving that I should file a complaint that this was highly unusual for a doctor to do this but we're all going home and we're going to put you into this other room all by myself the staff members as she was leaving told me there are nurses on other side of the door will look after you until the doctor comes. They did the surgery I was lied to as to why the doctor was being late he had another surgery emergency surgery at another hospital the patient had gangrene gallbladder which requires to have an incision done to remove it. I was told when I got out of recovery my gallbladder gangrenous but they removed mine laparoscopically I was just told by the anesthesiologist right before the surgery that the only way to remove a gallbladder that is gangrenous is by incision. When it came to being discharged I had to have the chief of surgery said I don't understand why the doctor wasn't their discharge me hours earlier. they sent me home with my jpegs told me to make an appointment with him he would remove them. They prejudge me they thought I was atypical meth addicts. I had a full-time job my healthcare insurance paid for the whole bill , have a car that was registered I have a car that has insurance on it did I paid on time every month never missing a payment, i have a full set of teeth I have no sores all over my face this hospital treated me this way because of a drug screening they did, All medical institutions will treat you badly if they find out that you have a drug or alcohol problem even if you have years of recovery I've heard it out of nurses' mouth I've heard it out of doctor's mouth I work for banner health for 10 years and I've experienced it in carondelet St Mary's banner South in Tucson and numerous banner facilities. Warning if you tell your doctor or any hospital or care provider that you have a drug and alcohol problem even with many years of recovery you will be put in a national database as a drug seeker. They will deny this national database but I guarantee you it exists you will be punished by the medical facilities for the rest of your life because once that's admitted it never leaves your record. Regardless of any hospital regulations and policies they may have. They have no control over what the nurse or doctor may think or feel about a drug addict and most of the time it's always negative and you will be treated as such a drug seeker who isn't worth caring for. No I'm not telling anybody not to tell their medical professionals that they may have these problems but you need to be aware you will forever get treated like scum.
My friend (who is autistic) was seen for possible seizure activity the other night. St. Mary's emergency department was very busy, but she was placed in a safe, dark room while waiting. She instantly connected with Catelyn, who really understood how to communicate with my friend. We were there for many hours, but Catelyn made sure she didn't feel alone or ignored. Catelyn deserves an award and a raise for being such an excellent example of compassionate healthcare.
My care at the wound healing center at St Mary's was extraordinary. Dr Mc Reynolds and his staff are so skilled and kind. They work together so well, they genuinely cared about me and each other. Truly an uplifting and healing environment. I will always be grateful to have had the pleasure of getting to know them.
I am new to Rio Rico, just moved in 11/6 and do not even have a PCP yet. Saturday evening, I had an emergency health issue and called 911. I was transported by Tubac (guys were fabulous!) to Nogales Holy Cross Hospital where the staff in the ER were very attentive and friendly. I spent the night there and then transported by another EMT Service (Nogales - who were also fabulous!) to Tucson to St. Mary’s Hospital. Every single person I have dealt with (from nurses and food service to anesthesiologists and doctors) have been so kind, helpful, respectful, and willing to do it all with smiles and laughter! Being in a hospital and being in pain/ill is no fun for anyone but the staff here TRULY made this much easier. Thank you so much to everyone!
